A courier company, which was the first in London to run electric vans in the capital,  has welcomed the Governments decision to allow a 100 per cent tax allowance for electric vans.

A courier company, which was the first in London to run electric vans in the capital,  has welcomed the Governments decision to allow a 100 per cent tax allowance for electric vans.
Managing Director of Abby Couriers, Mark Giles, said: “The Pre-Budget Report didn't include a lot of good news for businesses but one item tucked away in the small print is good news for companies such as Abby Couriers which are investing in electric powered vehicles.
“The Chancellor has announced that there will be a 100 per cent tax first year allowance for electric vans from April 2010 which means that companies can write off the cost of investing in such vehicles against profits in the year when the vehicles are bought rather than over an extended period of time.
“This year Abby Couriers invested £85,000 buying three electric vans to be based at our Vauxhall depot in London and they have been a great success.
“We have been looking at buying further vehicles for other depots including our head office in Basildon and this tax allowance will be a big encouragement to pursue our objectives of becoming an increasingly environmentally friendly company while still providing fats and efficient courier services for our customers.”
